Sleeping within the ancient walls of the Convent of San Vettore is like turning back the clock to thousand years. It is located on a stretch of the Via Salaiola that connected Volterra to Florence. The first historical records of the monastery date back to the 11th century, when San Vettore was inhabited by the Vallombrosani monks and the Benedictine nuns who built here the cloister, their dormitory and other monastic rooms whose ancient foundations are still visible today, next to ruins of the Romanesque church.
Guests can choose among the rooms of the ancient monastery, restored thanks to the owners Peter and Erika Niesel, who decided to move to San Vettore from Germany in 1985.
San Vettore is an ideal retreat for medieval lovers, for those who are longing for tranquillity and nature: immersed in a forest of centuries-old oaks, the Convent overlooks a breathtaking panorama. A scenery that all guests can enjoy, sitting outside in the commons areas and why not… sipping a good glass of local wine.
