Tuscan Wine Tasting on the Via Francigena
The Azienda Agricola Casanuova is located along the Via Francigena, within the Benestare Park. The company’s splendid vineyards extend over 25 hectares, straddling the municipalities of Gambassi Terme, Certaldo and San Gimignano.
The grapes – those typical of the area, Sangiovese, Trebbiano Toscano, Merlot and Malvasia – are entrusted to the expert care and attention of Caterina and Saverio.
For three generations, they have been producing top-quality organic wines in their cellar, with a strong and decisive character, produced with full respect for the ancient winemaking and oil-making tradition that characterises their history.
‘Day after day we cultivate our land in an environmentally friendly way,’ say Caterina and Saverio – We believe in a herbicide- and pesticide-free viticulture, made with a code of good practice by intervening as little as possible in the vineyard. We scrupulously select the grapes, to develop an organic wine to be left to rest and refine until the magical moment of bottling’.
For those who have travelled the Via Francigena stage between Gambassi Terme and San Gimignano, the Azienda Agricola Casanuova is a familiar face, if one can call it that.
The pilgrim’s passport, the pilgrim’s wall of fame, with coats of arms, wall paintings, signs and markings have become one of the most photographed corners by those walking this stretch.
